Lone Sloane: Delirius, by Philippe Druillet

TLDR: I rave about Druillet's Lone Sloan graphic novel.

This graphic novel tells of an interstellar rogue, Lone Sloan, who is approached by some red priests to rip off the emperor of a pleasure planet. Let's just say, it gets messy. Despite all the high action, the story is a bit plodding at times, yet it all kind of comes together in a pretty cool way at the end. Honestly, it reads a bit like an RPG session!

The real story of this work though is in the drawings and the panel/page designs!

As you can see, the drawings have a greebly-vastness that only certain artists can pull off. Every panel is packed with squiggly details that suggest as much as delineate, but are nonetheless exact in their own way. The detail isn't just noise.

The panel layouts are incredible. They have a kaleidoscopic symmetry that reminds me of the work of Joseph Stella. Sometimes they are reminiscent of Escher's tessellations as well.
